I am still spinning my beautiful roving that I treated myself at the spin in in the fall. I bought enough for a sweater but life keeps getting in the way of my spinning time…..LOl.. I am sure you know what I mean.

Teaching is Rewarding

Recently I was asked by the Warkworth Spinners and Weavers to come to a guild meeting and teach them about making different coloured yarns from natural coloured sheep fleeces. Since I had done my last project on this during my Ontario Handspinners Certificate course I was really excited to show them my stuff. It’s all about learning and passing that knowledge on that is so rewarding especially if you have an excited group like I did. My goal was to show them samples of different coloured yarns you could make from just using 3 natural coloured fleece. A black, a grey and a white fleece . By using different blending , spinning or plying techniques you can achieve this . I had 15 samples to show them. The goal was to make you think and make your own colour blends instead of searching for that one colour of say “brown” fleece. You may be able to make that colour from your stash . We had a lot of fun and I hope they enjoyed it and will look at their stash in a different way.

This is my sample blanket I have ongoing since I started spinning. It is made from all the different natural coloured fleece that I have spun over the years to show just how many beautiful natural colours sheep can be.

My rug that I hooked using natural colours for the sheep to show the blends you can make.A big thank you to Jill for taking the photos for me.

Why wait till spring….do it now!

When you are feeling crappy and the sun isn’t shining and they are calling for snow and you just want it to be golf season and play outside in warm weather what do you do???? Pick yourself up and go get a new hairdo….. nothing like a little change to give you that much needed boost….. oh ya baby…. I’m ready for that snow now so bring it on!

And just where am I to sleep?????

Ok so I made a HUGE mistake with my last foster Collie. The first night after a stressful day of travelling to my house my new foster girl jumped on my bed and curled up to sleep. I felt bad for her and thought what the heck she was only going to be here temporary. Antrim by the way was never allowed on my bed.

So my foster girl got adopted right away and has gone to live happily ever after in Montreal.

MEANWHILE back at the ranch!! Antrim thought what is good for the goose is terrific for the gander!!

I have created a monster…. this is what I get when going to bed now!

He also likes being taken for walks by my Grandaughter Vannya who is up from Mexico where she lives. She is enjoying the snow very much.

Hand Spun Hand Knit

I am constantly baffled by the power of the internet particularly how people find out about me. Recently I was contacted by a couple from Illinois . They had saved the brushings from their dog as they had heard about people spinning it into yarn. They came across my website and contacted me. They sent me their dog hair and I spun a sample before committing to the job of making a hat for Mr. I smarten up over the years and have done samples before committing. Once I had a fellow from England send me a sample of his dog hair to spin as he wanted a sweater made from his precious pooch. Unfortunately I discouraged him from having it done as the length of the dog hair was really too short. I usually blend it 50/50 with sheep’s wool but still the dog hair would migrate with wearing and it would be constantly shedding. So the couple from Illinois got the hat they wanted and were very pleased.

Here is a pic of it. The dark brown is sheep’s wool from a Romney breed that I spun and the dog hair is the cream colour which was blended 50/50 with a white Romney fleece.

Finished Blanket

Well speedy girl Joan has finished her blanket. Don’t you just love the colours???? I think she should keep it on the back of “my ” chair at her house for when I come and watch movies and knit with her . What do you think?hmmmm?

Other People’s Projects

Thought I would post updates on previous posts of other people’s projects.

My Jessica brought her ongoing Granny Squares to work on at Christmas. She is doing a fabulous job and even had enough to start sewing them together. Her afghan is growing quite nicely and will look great on the end of her bed.

Joan is way ahead of me making those little triangles with sock yarn. Here is her little blanket with many sewn together . It is so pretty and I know I will enjoy it while watching a movie at her house…LOL..

It’s My Birthday!!!!

Yippi!! It’s my birthday and I’ll cry if I want too BUT I’m too busy having fun!!!! Getting spoiled today on my special day.

I got so many well wishes on facebook and phone calls and presents!!! Oh my . And these 2 deliveries of flowers to boot!

Getting picked up later for dinner out !!! My day couldn’t be better. I am truly blessed with all my thoughtful friends.

A Gathering of Fibre Friends.

On December 29th Joan invited us to her house for a fibre day. There were 18 of us so you can imagine the chatter that went on…..LOL.. We had a great day and it was also Grace’s birthday so we had something else to celebrate. Best wishes Grace.
