Socks, Socks, and more Socks…

30 Mar

Ok I admit it….. I am a sock knitting addict…. I love making socks especially multi coloured ones.  Depending on my mood is how the colours come out.  It’s fun choosing the next colour to use.   Some socks have up to 20 different colours in them from 20 different yarns.  I do sell a lot of them. They are made out of 80% superwash wool which means they can go in the washer and dryer.  Here is a pic of my latest batch.

My friend Joan gave me a bag of grey bits of yarn.  I have had requests to make larger socks for men so here is what I came up with not that men can’t wear the coloured ones eh?

Blaze

15 Mar

I am so happy at how well my foster dog Blaze is doing.  He is learning to play and what a toy is… He loves chasing his squeeky toys and even brings them back for you to throw again.  He also has gained 7 pounds since I have had him so he now weighs in at 71 pounds.   I think 75 pounds should be his max.   He is such a cuddle bug and loves lots of hugs…. don’t we all??  I hope he finds his forever home soon as he is really bonding to me.  If you know anyone who might like a wonderful dog please contact me or the Collie Rescue Network. You can view his bio at the address below his picture on petfinder.

What I have been working on.

3 Mar

I know I have been bad not posting stuff…. I have been busy working or busy with my foster boy Blaze.

Just wanted to show you I am not sitting doing nothing in what little spare time I have..lol

This is my ongoing traditional rug hooking that will be a rug at some point.  I only hook on Monday’s when I can make it to Hooking. It’s coming along and I am happy with it.

I have also started a short sleeve cardigan sweater made out of my hand spun and hand dyed yarn.  I sometimes get chilly and want a sweater but don’t want the bulk on my arms when doing things. So it will be a short sleeve one that buttons up.

And of course I always have my sock knitting basket at my chair and always have a pair on the go as I sell a lot of them.

So that is what I am doing behind the scenes…lol.

My New Foster Boy “Blaze”

2 Feb

As most of you know I work as a volunteer with the Collie Rescue as a foster mom.  When the Collie Rescue is alerted to a surrendered Collie they go into foster care instead of being held at a humane society or other facility until they are adopted.  We have many volunteers but are always looking for more. Some people just can’t foster but they volunteer their time as drivers to transport our Collies as in the case yesturday.  There were a total of 4 different drivers from the other side of Ottawa to Campbellford to transport Blaze to me so I could give him a nice foster home.  This allows the dog to be evaluated for social skills, any behaviour problems, and socializing in a home environment.  This is a great way to do things as the person who adopts the Collie will have a full idea of any problems , likes and dislikes that the dog may have.  Often the foster parent(s) can fix this before they get adopted.

So this is Blaze who is 7 years young and will make someone happy with a nice companion. He is a purebred Smooth Coated Collie which means he has short hair.  My Antrim was a Rough Coated Collie like Lassie which is the kind most of us know.

Please check out the Collie Rescue site for more info on Blaze and our other Collies up for adoption.. or maybe you would like to volunteer for something???

Check out this Bird

25 Jan

Ok all you bird watchers.

I have a strange little sparrow type bird come to my feeder for the past 2 days. I finally got a pic of the little guy.

I figure he must be a cross of a couple of sparrows.  His head is really white but doesn’t show that in the pictures.  He has a chest mark the same as the Tree Sparrow.  His legs are also the same colour of his beak.

Tiny Nails

3 Jan

My 3 year old Grandaughter is visiting me from Mexico.  We just had fun doing her tiny nails with poka dots.  Vannya was so patient not only sitting while we put on the dots but also while they were drying.  She picked out the red and green colours…. last week it was pink and purple…lol

2014 is here.

1 Jan

Well the new year has arrived and my new Collie Rescue calendar is up with some beautiful pictures of so many wonderful Collies to look at.  I hope 2014 will be a better year for me with exciting new adventures and new people in my life.  I have given the Collie Rescue notice that I am ready to foster again in January after my Emily and grandchildren go back to Mexico which I hope isn’t until the end of January so stay tuned for pics if I get a furry foster child. I also am determined I will break 100 in my golf game this year. Only 4 months away folks…. Last year I had two  100 goals.  One was my golf game which I came close to with 102 but just couldn’t squeek 100 .  The second was my 100th donation for giving blood which I achieved in November and am very proud of.  I feel lucky that I am healthy and can give and hope to give my 101 donation this month if I can get rid of this darn cold…..lol..

I hope to keep doing my fibre fun and to jump start the new year I finished my first pair of gloves ever….. Thanks to Janice Daniels for giving me this pattern to knit them out of sock yarn on just 2 needles.  They are sooooo easy and fun to knit. I want to knit my next pair with random yarn just like I do my socks so stay turned.  Sorry  Janice to knit them the same colour as yours but I wanted to knit my first pair with just one colour of yarn and Stedmans only had this colour that I liked.   They fit so well.  I am not really a glove person more of a mitten person but these are just  wonderful and warm to wear.  I think it is because they are 75% superwash wool which easily goes in the washer and dryer.

So hoping that everyone’s wishes come true for 2014 and it’s a fantastic year.  I am looking forward to it!!

cheers

Kerry

Look What I Got

27 Nov

I went to visit my youngest daughter last weekend and she surprised me with a Mini Antrim.  She needle felted it with a stash of my fleece that she had.  Of course I had a boo hoo when I saw it.  She did an amazing job and it’s safely put away in my china cabinet away from my cats which I am sure would want to play with him…Thank you so much Abby Jean..xxoo
